CAMBRIDGE CHEESE FACTORY.

TO THE EOITOK. Sir,—l sec by the papers that there is considerable discussion taking place concerning the advisability, or otherwise, Of erecting a cheese factory in the Cambridge district. If it would not be considered presumptuous on my part, I would suggest the following course—viz : That a committee of say a dozen, or more. of the most energetic settlers and business men should meet, draw up a prospectusmaking the calls as easy as possiblecanvass the district for support, and decide at once that a factory should be erected, call for tenders for suitable sites of say ten or twelve acres ; also, for .erecting the buildings and supplying the machinery. Unless prom [it action is taken a season will be lost. If the settlers and business men will only take up the matter heartily, and the committee act boldly, the factory can be at work within two months. There is now no doubt that the factory system will confer great and lasting benefits on the settlers generally, and indirectly on the business community. The committee need not waste valuable time in combatting the stupid arguments used by obstructionists. Had the factory system been introduced ten years ago we should have heard very little about the present depression, especially among the smaller settlers.—l am, &c, W. Steele. Hamilton, loth August.
