“ INTERPROVINCIAL [BY TELEUKAI’II. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CJHRISTCHUROH, Thursday. For the want of a (juormn no meeting of the .Southern Cross Petroleum Company was held, but the chairman of the direetois made a statement showing the amount of capital called up £24,800, or 10s 4d on 45,000 sliares. The amount paid up was £23,887, and the liabilities amounted to £20,043, including paid-up capital. Assets, £8790. The ordinary expenditure was £10,802. The new bore is down 450 feet.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday.
The inquoot on the fire at Charnock's house in St. Aubyn-street was resumed last night, when several witnesses were examined, and proved that tiic goods produced were in Charnock's house; before the (ire. The inquiry was again resumed this morning. Tne steamer Irishman, engaged in bringing coal from the Mokau mine, got adrift and floated to the mouth of the river, where she was broken up in the surf.
The natives who passed through the town Monday, from Parihaka, went as far as Mangaone, where they had a meeting. They returned again this morning, en route for Parihaka, spending several hours in New Plymouth.
WELLIXGTON", Thursday.
It is understood that a writ claiming £3OOO damages was yesterday served upon the manager of a local bank, at the instance of a gentlemau who is well known in commercial circles in Wellington, who alleges that his credit has been injured through the action of the defendant in reference to certain dealings which he has had with the bank recently. Friday. At the Lower Hutt yesterday a train ran off the line. The passengers were much shaken, but no damage was done. The Mawhera arrived from Greymouth this morning. When crossing the bar soundings were taken and the lowest depth of water was 19 feet. Mr R. R. Guinness, M.H.R., was a passenger by the steamer.
The Health Officers, to-day, inspected the Te Anau before she came alongside the wharf, and also the barque .Sophia. In both cases everybody on board, was found to be in good health.
DUNEDIN, Thursday. Mr. Stout goes by special train to Timaru to-night, and thence by the ordinary train in the morning to Christchurch.
Friday. The baby show to-day produced 135 entries, including seven pairs of twins. Owing to the encrnous crush of sightseers, the opening had to be postponed till Monday.
