[Received August 13, 11.30 a.m..] London, August 12, 3 p.m. Tht> cricket match at the Oval was resumed this morning. Continued fine weather prevails, and the attendance on the ground was enormous. The "not outs" of yesterday, Murdoch and Scott, tooU their places at the wickets, and in the first over Scott, after making one run, was caught, and the partnership which proved so successful was dissolved. Scott letircd with 102 to his ciedit, and was warmly cheeied for his splendid innings. Giflen joined Murdoch, and for some time the inns continued to mount up rapidly, the South Au&tialian being m good foim, and the captain batting most brilliantly and with perfect freedom. 400 was posted on theboaid, and Murdoch and Giffen were still at the wickets, but before many inoie had been added Giffen was caught, after contubuting a well-played 32. Bonnor was the next tnau in, but was unable to make any stand, having only made 8 when he was caught. Play was then suspended for luncheon, Murdoch's score standing at 190, not out. The latter continued to show good form, and had mn up a well-played 30 when he was given out leg before wicket. Spofibith followed, but was bowled Avhcn he had made 5, and Boyle, the last man, succumbed aftei scoring a single. Palmer earned his bat for 11. The most successful bowlers for the Englishmen ucie Barnes, who took two wickets for SO mns, and the lion. Mi Lyttelton four for 20. The other four wickets, however, cost ovei 400 inns, the vaiious bowleis who were tued being played with freedom by McDonnell, Scott, and Muidoch. After the usual interval, the Englishmen commenced their first innings, Dr. W G. Grace and Scotton being sent in to face the bow ling. The Gloucestershire champion had scored 19 when he was run out. Barnes followed, and with Scotton succeeded in making a temporaiy stand. Barnes, however, was caught after contributing 19, and the stumps were drawn for the day, Scotton being not out with 21 to his credit, and the score standing at two wickets for 71.
