THE BLUE RIBBON ARMY AT WHAT AW HAT A.

A correspondent wiites :— A branch of the Gospel Temperance Mission and Blue Gibbon Army was held in the school-room on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance, the schoolroom' being full. Mr Burton, of Avondale, occupied the chair, and, in a few remarks, stated the object of the meeting, and urged the claims of the movement on all present. Addresses were delivered by the Rev J. Dukes, Mr George French and Mr Skeats, and a recitation was given by Master Bui ton. During the meeting several of Sankey's Hymn's were sung, Mis-s Iweisen piesiding at the organ. At the close of the meeting 25 adults signed the pledge ami donned the blue, and 12 children enteied their names as members of the Band of Hope, making a total of 37 names leceived during the fiist meeting, which was considered most encom aging. I s ow the movement is staited in What.xwh.iti, it is to be hoped it will have a good hold, and that many more may be induced to join the lanks. The following officebearers were elected :-Piesident, Mr William Skeates ; \ ice president, Mi Chas. A. Walter ; sect ctary, Mr Shepherd. It was icsolved that the meetings be held every month, the next meeting to be held on Fnday, September sth. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Bey J. Dukes and Mr Geo. Fionch for coming from Hamilton to start the meeting.
