London, August 7. The Australian cricketers commenced a match at Clifton to day against eleven of the County of Gloucester. The following are the names of the home team :—J. A. Bush, W. It. Gilbert, Dr. E. M. Grace, Dr. W. G. Grace, W. W. F. Pulden, J. Townsend, H. Y. Page, Woof, Brain, Carters, and Painter. The weather was splendid throughout the day, and there was si good attendance of spectators. Great interest was taken in the game. The home team went in first to the wickets, and put together a total of 301 before the last man was disposed of. Dr. W. G. Grace played splendidly, and carried out his bat after scoring 116. The other principal scorers were: Gilbert, b, 57, ana Townsqnrl, b, < 40. The innings of the local team lasted-until late in the afternoon, and when, lime was called the Australians had only scored 14 runs, and without the loss of a.wicket. August, 9. The cricket' match, Australians v. Gloucester, was resumed to-day at Clifton. There was a large attendance > and the weather was fine- The wicket was lively. The Australians,, with 14 runs up, and no wickets down, continued their first innings, which was not concluded when the stumps were drawn for the day. The score then stood at 295 for 8 wickets. The following were the highest scorers : McDonnell", b, 62 j Bannerman, b, 23 ; Giffen, b, 48 ; Scott, not out, 78 ; Bonnor, c, 29. ' -' ,i August, 9. The cricket match at Cliftonj' the Australians v. Gloucester, was concluded today, and resulted in a draw; In the first innings the Australians scored 314 run, against 301. made by the home team in their first innings.
