PROPOSED HAWK CLUB AT CAMBRIDGE.

Thk serious depredations of haw Us on all sorts of game within the past year or so, and the great numerical increase of this destructive peat his induced some observant gentlemen in the Cambridge district to seriously consider the question of starting a hawk club, offering a pi ice per head for each bird. It has been estimated that for every hawk there was in the country three years ago there are a hundred now, and that if a veto is not immediately put on their increase, they will become so numerous and destructive that it will be impossible to cope with them. Ho less than twenty of these birds were seen in one small paddock a few days ago, busily engaged picking the eyes out of the ewes as they lay down to lamb, and the latter were also receiving their attention. The great scarcity ot pame last season is by several reliable authorities put down to the depredations of the hawks, and it is calculated that if no action is taken in the matter, there will bo nothing but hawks to shoot w hen next season arrixes. A large sum of money has aheady been promised, and the formation of a club will be proceeded with at once. About £40 his already been collected by Mr W. Moon towards the object.
