rr\o THE ELECTORS or WAIKATO. Auckland, July, 9th 18S4-. Gextlemj:x,— l regiet excedmgly that the state of my health will pie\ent my visiting the various centres of population and addressing you previous to the day of nomination. I have, however, every reason to believe that before the meeting of the New Parliament my health will be sufficiently restored to enable me to attend to your interests in AYcllington should you again think proper to send me there as your representative. As regards the politics of the past my views are pretty well known to you by my actions, with only two recent exceptions viz. : the defeat of the Government and the question of the Honorarium. As regards the first, I had decided to stand by my old friends who, notwithstanding their many faults, had served the country faithfully and were in my opinion infinitely to be preferred to an Opposition the various sections of which could only combine for the purpose of turning out the Government, not for carrying on the business of the countiy. As regards the Honorarium, I think you all know me sufficiently well to render any statement upon that subject unnecessary. Upon the politics of the future I hope to be able to address you on or before the day of nomination. Meanwhile it will perhaps snffice to say that I intend to accord Major Atkinson a general support as on the whole the safest guide which the colony has at • present at its disposal.— l am, yours Faithfully. ( J, B. WHYTE.

mo IHE ELECTORS OF AA r AIPA. ?
