[BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Auckland, Monday Night. —Mr DeLautour has accepted the invitation to contest Newton against Mr Peacocke. — Some time ago Sir George Grey was requested to contest Egmont against Major Atkinson. The member for City East declined, and some days ago he received another request from the Egmont electors, this time to the effect that he would recommend the election pt a local candidate in the Opposition interest. To this Sir George Grey has sent a telegraphic reply, intimating that as his friends and foes seemed inclined to allow him to be re-elected for City East without opposition, he is inclined to showequal generosity to the Government party as represented by their leader, Major Atkinson. He therefore declined to make any recommendation in the matter, and left the Egmont electors at hbeity to act as they thought fit. — Sir George Whitmore and Mr DeLautour arrived from the South by the Ringalooma this afternoon. Russell, Monday.— The native nominations took place here to-day, the following candidates being nominated, viz. : — Ihaka Hakuene, To Tai, Raniera Wharerau, Hitini Taiwhanga, and Rai Pangari.
