The steeplechase meeting to-day was atteuded by about 2300 persons. The weather was fine, but owing to the late r.uus tnat part of the course recently ploughed was very heavy. No accident of any moment occurred, although there were several spills. £3308 passed through the totalisator.

GERALDINE STEEPLECHAS. The Geraldine Racing Club held its first steeplechase at Orari to-day. The racing was ouly fair. The weather was fine and the attendance moderate. The following are the results :—: —

In- tho Houso of Lords to-day, Sir Stafford Noithcoto, the leader of the Opposition, gave notice of a motion declaring that the Anglo- French agreement regarding Egyptian affairs will neither lead to the peace of that country nor justify an English loan.
