In the House of Lords to-day, Earl Granville was questioned regarding the proKress which has been made in connection with the negotiations for holding the projected Conference on Egyptian affairs, la reply Lord Granville stated that an agreement had been come to with th. French Government as to the basis upon which the proceedings of the Conference should take place, and the .natter bad been submitted for the consideration of the other European Powers. Adonral Sir William Hewitt, commanding the Erst Indian squadron, has at Aden from Abysssinin.

London, June 17. The homeward mails via Suez, and Brindisi, From Melbourne on May b, were delivered 'on Saturday. The Hon. Evelyn Ashley, Under-Sec-retarv for the Colonies, has proposed that the Australian colonies shall contribute a share in the expenses to be incurred by the tempoi ary extension of the powers ■ ot Sir George Dcs Vreux, in order that' the latter may be in a position to deal with the labour traffic in the Sonth Seas, and that the Agents-General for the various colonies shall afterwards discuss with the Imperial Government the question ot adopting further means for regulating or for repressing the labour traffic in Island labourers. ,
