POLITICAL GOSSIP. [BY TELEGRAPH. -OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday.
Parliament did not meet to-day, but to-morrow the great fight, if it comes off at all this session, will begin. Some people say that either Mr D irgaville or Mr Wakefield will at once move a vote of want-of-confidence, but opinion is gaining ground that unless some special chance occurs of a sudden catch vote, the Opposition will not hasten on a decisive trial of strength, and perhaps will not try issues this session for fear of a failure. Major Atkinson is much better to-day than since his illness. It is believed he went out of doors too soon. He suffers from cold, sleeplessness, and over-work. Mr M. W. Greeu seconds the Address-in-Reply. The Ministry have not yet appointed a member of the council to assist Mr OliverWahanni was seen this morning at the Native Office. He has come in with nine Maoris, three of them women, to see the city and Parliament proceedings. He is a five looking man, with nearly white hair. There are a grpat many Pressmen in Wellington. Mr Twopenny, of the Otago Daily Times, MrLoughnan, of the Lyttelton Times, Mr Berry, managing editor of New Zealand Herald, besides several special reporters of last session are here. General society in the city is rather dull. There are not ao many visitors as la3t year.
