Newcastle.

Tbb committee for this district sat yesterday at the schoolliouse, Whatawhata. Present : Messrs Limmer (chairman), Day, Dawson, and Fleming. The only business was an application for a renewal of the license of the Whatawhata Hotel by Richard George. The police report was vciy unfavourable, and in the face of this Mr Hay, who appeared for the owners of the hotel, Messrs Dickeson and Burnett, said he would not apply for a renewal to George, but asked that the matter be held ovpr to give the owners an opportunity of making a fresh application. The committee consented to adjourn the hearing to the 30th inst. Mr Hay then applied that a temporary license be gnnted to Mr Kellow in the meantime. This was granted.
