THE CAMBRIDGE RAILWAY.

The whistle of the railway engine may riow be heard within about three miles of Cambridge, the contractor for the permanant way having within the pist month made rapid progress with his contract. It is expected, if the supply of material docs not run short in the meantime, that the line will be canied into Cambridge within about ten days time. Mr Lovett has been exceedingly fortunate in getting such a long run of fine weather ior his contract, and tlio labour market has likewise been very favourable. The work of erecting the station buildings is being rapidly pushed forwaid, those at Cambridge particularly being well advanced towards completion The crossings have all been made, and the fencing contract will have been disposed of as far as the station grounds in a few days It is therefore not too much to expect that we shall have the satisfaction of seeing Mr Mitchelson's 'promise realised, rind that before the end of June the iron horse will have made its debut in the town of Cambridge. AVc understand that it is intended to celebrate the opening of the line by a public demonstration, but what form this will take we are not yet in a position to state. Certainly if any event has an importance to the Cambridge public it is the opening of its railway.
