THE DUNEDIN UNEMPLOYED. [BY TELEGRAPH.- PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
DuNKMtT, Monday. At an open air meeting of the unemployed, Mr Bracken, M.H.R , siid he had telegraphed to the Premior on Saturday asking that temporary work should be given immediately, but the Premier had not had the courtesy to reply. The Mayor said he had also telegraphed to the Premier this morning, exprpssing his great surprise at having leceived no reply to his former message on a matter of s>uch moment, and demaaded an immediate answer, as large numbers of unemployed were beselging him for work. At the council meeting he would endeavour to induce that body to provide temporary work.
Later. A large crowd of the unemployed was gathered at the Cargill monument to-day. Two hundred and twenty-one signed their names to n document, and 'gave particulars whether they were married or sinple, the number of children in their families, artd how long they had been out of work. Ttib longest period any of them ha\e bevn unemployed is six months, and the average time during which the men have been out of work is seven' weeks.
