Extraordinary Suicide.
A &UJMDE of a most unusual and determined chiracter took place lately at Herrings-pond-end. The wretched creature, who«e name was Lampslack, destroyed himself by firstly drinking three quarts of paraffin and then forcing lighted matches down his throat, until his whole inside was in a mass of flames. He afterwards mounted the roof of the parish church, and stripping the clothes from hi« body, stood in a state of nudity (presenting the appearance of a huge human ianterm), until he was entirely consumed from within. It is supposed that he was of unsound mind. —Future Times, 1990.
It is not what people eat, but; -what they digest, that makes them strong. It is not what they gain, but what they sire, that makes them rich. It is not what they .read, but what they remember, that makes them learned; it is not what they profess, but, what they practise, that make* them righteetls.
