Statements have readied here to the effect that a new Mahdi has appeared in the Darfur country. He lias, it is said, secured the allegiance of several tiibes, and lias fought a pitched battle with the followers of Mahomet Ach met, the reputed Mahdi, in which the latter was defeated with heavy loss. It is announced that Zehehr Pasha lias forwaidcd to the Government a letter lie has received from General Gordon, in which the latter insists on his (Zebelu's) immediate return to Khartoum.
