PRESENTATION TO MR ROBERT SALMON.

The late creditors of Mr Robert Salmon, formerly in business in Hamilton, being desirous of marking in some substantial way tlieii high appreciation of his honourable conduct, commissioned their chairman, Captain Steele, to purchase for and present to Mr Salmon a solid silver tea and coffee service. Captain Steele complied with this desire and wrote the following letter, which accompanied the presentation : — Hamilton, May 24, 1884. Dear Sir, — It is my pleasing duty, as chairman of your Lite ci editor;-., to present you witi. thi-> tea service as a slight recognition of the honourable way in which you h,i\e .satisfied .ill claims against you, even when not legally bound to do .so. You have shown a noble evunple to all in similar circumstances by the manly way in which you have woiked to regain your position and ciodit, and by your recognition of the fact that, although not ligilly iesponaible, you were morally so. You ha\e established a character for honesty and iiit6gnty which will, we trust, beef thegieatest Venice to you in your business. Yve feel .issuied that this memento will be regaided by your family with feelings of piide, as showing the esteem in which you are held toi your honourable conduct under veiy tiying circumstances. — YouiB veiy faithfully, W. SriSELE. Mr Robert Salmon. The following reply was received fioin Mr Salmon :—: — Auckland, May 2(i, 1884. To Captain Steele. Dear Sn,— As chairman of my late creditois, will you kindly convey to them my best w ishe*> and thank.s for the handsome present that you h.i\o presented to me on their behalf, also for the very kindly expressions that you ha\e given to me.
