The inspecting oih'cer remaiked that the carbines \\ ci c very clean. The manual exercise he said, was gone tluough better than he. had ever seen before in this troop. The pursuing practice was gone through in an equally 01 editable manner. Hoisemanship, quality and condition of horse ; ooudition ot hotse-gear ; cleanliness of arms and accoutrements : cleanliness of horse ; class firing ; judging distance practice ; knowledge of drill. Not more than two points to be given in any of the above subjects. order to maintain and improve the efficiency of the volunteer organisation of the Province of Auckland, ifc is desirable that a camp meeting be held once a year of all the various provincial corps, the said meeting to take place dm ing the FUstcr holidays, and that captains of corps be communicated, with to give the matter consideration." The proposer and seconder of the resolution having spoken at 'jonsideiable length, it was put to the troop and carried unanimously. With regard to the match with the Waiuku troop, the committee, I am informed, intend vtiting to the latter asking them to fix a date for the match. I hope the committee on this occasion will wind up the affair with a ball instead of a dinner. A dinner at w liieh the company consists solely of male creatures, is a dreary affair at best. A ball would bo much more to the purpose, as the ladies (many of whom take an interest in volunteering) can take part in this portion of the proceedings.
MISCELLANEOUS. The condition of the To Awanuitu Public Libraiy is improving considerably, the committee having lecently added sixty now volumes to the stock of books. It is a groat pity the public in other distuets do not support such institutions. The annual subset iplion to this libraiy is only ten shillings, which is but a small sum to pay for the varied information which can be gained from such a source. The first meeting of the Mangapilco Licensing Committee was held here in the Court-house on Friday. Piesent : Mcssts Newhind, Jttu fcherfoi d and West n ey. The latter gentlemen was elected chairman.
