It has transpired that in consequence of the threatened advance northwards of Osman Digna aud the followers of the Mahdi, and with the view of allaying the consternation which has been thereby caused, the Egyptian Government recently decided to despatch a portion of the Egyptian forces now stationed at Assouan to Wady Haifa, an important military position at the second cataract •n the Nile. The Imperial Government, however, votoed the proposed despatch of troop*.
The usual services at the Hamilton Wesleyan Church will be held to-morrow. The Rev. Mr Dukes will preach in the morning on " Children's Service," and Mr T. J. Wallis in the evening on " Christ's Constraining Love." Creditors in the estate of J. K. Prirce, late of Alexandra, are requested to forward their accounts to i&x H.
