MIRACULOUS ESCAPE FROM DROWNING.

An old man named James Cummings had a remarkable escape from di owning m the Waikato iner at Hamilton last night. His cries were eventually heaid at Mr Bradley 's residence, on the opposite side of the river, and the Misbeb Bradley at once proceeded to inform the police. Seigeant McUorern and Constable Wild, assisted bv a few volunteers, immediately took stops to evtricato Cnmmings fioin his perilous position, and with the aid of ropes ho was hauled to the bank, and taken to (-{-Wynne's Hotel, where he was hospitably lcceived and housed for the night. Beyond the effects of three hour-,' o\nosuie in such a-n awkward place, Cummings has luckily sustained no injury.
