HAMILTON EAST SCHOOL Presentation to Miss Cussen.

The East Hamilton School was yesterday the scene of an interesting ceremony. Miss Oilmen having resigned her appointment in the school, the children detei mined not to allow her to depait without some token of their esteem and affection. They accordingly subset ibed and purchased a silver biacelpt, which was ye-.teid.iy presented to Miss Cusson by the head master, Mr Stevens in a neat and appropriate addiess. After alluding to the admirable manner m which Miss Gnssen had managed the infant depaitment, he proceeded to say that the scholars could learn from her a far better lesson than any taught in the school curuculum, that of saciihcmg themselves forotheis. Miss Cussen was always ready to attend the bed of sickness, nor did she make that an excuse for neglecting her school duties. Many a night had she f>at up m .scenes of agony, and yet appeared punctually ne\t day," brisk and active as usual. Aftei these remarks he presented the bracelet to Miss Cussen, expressing the hope that she would look to the affection that prompted rather than to the intrinsic value of the gift. Miss Glisten, who appealed deeply affected, said: "I have been quite taken by surprise by this ceremony. In fact, had I known of it I bhould ha\e kept away, as I feel I am entuely unwoithy either of this gift, or of Mr Stevens' kind leniaiks. lam deeply grateful, however, both to the children and to Mr Stevens." The ceiemony then closed with three cheers tor Miss Cussen, given a second time with renewed eneigy. Miss Pratt, of the College of Preceptors, London, is Miss Cussen's successor.
