CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the Cambridge Road Board was held at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday last. Present : Mesuri Jair.es Taylor (chairman), J. Allwill, Forrest and Smith. The minutes of the previous meeting were lead and con hrmed. Vicroiuv Ho YD. — A communication was received fiom the Public Works Depaituieiit notifying that the above road running from Cambridge to Piako, 12 miles, had been gazetted a main road for the purposes of the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, ISS2. Mil McKinnon's Valuatiom.- -Donald McKinnon applied foi a reduction of the present valuation of lots 2i)7, 2!) Sand 2!) ( J, situate at Hautapu. Pie^ent \aluation, £3. It was agieed to 1 educe it to £3. Mil Co\vi,k\\s TmtKAr— S. Cowley wrote to the effect that if something were not done to a small drain 1 tinning through his propety before the coming wet season, he would be obliged to close it up. — The clerk was mstiucted to caution Mr Cowley against caiiying out any such threat. Mti UiLU'-rrb Cows. — Ueo. CLuk wiote asking to be informed if the boaid had a ranger, and, if so, he should esteem it a favour if the board would instruct that officer to look up a mob of cattle, the property of Mi Gillett, which are continually on the public load, at the present time and dining the past few dajs impaulling the lives of those travelling along the Hamilton and Bald Hill road. An OBsrKUcno.v.— Ueo. Claik wrote complaining of an obstruction in the hhape of a bank, ditch, and gate across the road running b t veen beckons 11(5 and 119. Would the b >aid prise Mr (iillett notice to ramove the same. — It was agreed to inform Mi Claik that Mr (iillett had no authority to erect such obstruction. Ri.riuixo Mj:mijk»>.— Me^-siN Jas. Taylor and J. Allwill weie elected t,> be the retu.ngr member 1 for the ensuing year. It was agieed that an election for two new membeis should bo held. The letinng membeis absolutely lefused to be le-nomi-nated. This Small Bird Nuisance.— Some discussion on this matter took place.— Mi Smith repiesentecl the opinion of a laige number of fanners m the distiict who objected to the proposed scheme of poisoning the small buds, on the giound that the small birds did more good than harm. — Mi Tayloi expressed himself to some extent as pirtial to the small l)ii ds, and against the pioposed scheme of poisoning. — Mr Fonest was in favour of poisoning the buds. — Mr Smith thought that before any stops be taken in this matter the boaid should a-»-ceitain the feeling of the ratepayer. — The matter was allowed to drop. PxiOPOSKD DaviXAHC— On the motion of Mi Fonest, it was agreed to instinct the clerk to get plans fiom the engineer ie drainage, to suppoit application foi £'JOO under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. Accounts. — Several accounts were passed for payment.
