A sitting of the Court of A]>p3eil is fixed to be held here on the 12th May. It is understood that the Government ha\e under consideiation a new scale of fees foi the Supieine and R. M. Courts, and that in certain chargesjthere will be a substantial increase. Friday. It i 3 now stated definitely here that Mr MacDonald, M.H.R., will not resign his seat, but retaiu it until the general ekction. A man named Walter Robertson, a journeyman, baker, met his death under mysterious circumstances on the Ngahau" rauga line yesterday. He had been into town with a horse and cart, and started on the return Journey. His body was found shortly after four in the afternoon in a creek some 25 feet below the road, and had a severe cut on his head. It is conjectured that he was jerked out of the cart, and fell down the embankment. He leaves a wife and three children. The writ for the Thorndon seat which was issued this morning has been withdrawn in consequence of the polling place not yet having been appointed by the returning officer, who is absent from Wellington. He returns to-morrow, and the writ will be issued in the afternoon. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, Thomas J. Green, publican, was committed for trial for perjury. The offence is alleged to have been committed in a civil case in the R.M. Court by accused swearing that a cheque bearing his name was not signed by him, and that it was a forgery. Bail was allowed, himself in £100 and two sureties of £50 each. In the Divorce Court this afternoon, a rule absolute was granted in the case Climo v. Climo. In the case Mucaster v. Mucaster (Blenheim), a rule nisi was granted. The Premier left for the South to-day.
