DUNEDIN, Thursday.
The Tongariro ai rived to-day, after a passage ot 43 days 13 hours fiom Plymouth, the actual steaming time being 41 days 9 hours 33 minutes. She has 30 saloon and 133 second and third class passengers. No complaints were made by the passengers. One death ocenrred, that of a child 16 months old, and two boys were born. The bulk of her cargo is for this port, and the remainder for Lyttelton. Sir Julius, Lady, and Miss Vogel are among the passengers. Sir Julius Vogel is still suffering from gout badly, and moves about with difficulty. He says that his main object in visiting New Zealand is for the benefit of his health. He will iema.ui in this colony for at least tour mouths, and will then probably visit Australia. Fiiday. At the Chamber of Com mere 3 meeting to day. Mi Bathgate's resolution at the Chambei of Commerce was carried A small house at Port Chalmers was burned this morning. It was unoccupied, but the owner, Mr Gray, had been lepairing it dining the day. It was insured for £100 in the Colonial. On behalf of the subscribers, a number of ladies, Miss Dilrymple to-day presented the Guls' High School with a life sized painting ot the late Mr John .Richardson, who always took a warm interest in the foundation of the school aud its yrogiess.
