Mr, A. Saunders has decided to become a candidate for Kaiapoi. Mr. Wynn-Williams addiessed his constituents at WooUton this evening. He blames the Go\ eminent for not calling Pculiament together as soon as they discoveied the deficiency in the revenue, and Mr Rolleston for not resigning rather than submit to an increase ot the railway tariff. A vote of thanks and confidence was unanimously passed. John Vinclwll was fined £10 at the Magistrate's Court to-day for swindling poisons by the envelope tuck — a sham lotteiy — on the race coiuse yesterday. Wednesday. Major SUter, late captain of the Canteibiuv Yeomaniy Cavalry, has leceived a piesentation fiom his old regiment, At the Supi erne Court, the following sentences weie given :— David Howard Monciieft" Ogilvie, forgery, three yearo penal servitude ; Cornelius Corrigan, forgery, three yeais ; Alexander McMillan, foigery, four years; Frank D. Sayle, hor.se-stealing, linpusonment for twelve months.
