TE AWAMUTU.

CHOBU, SEUVICE VT b. JOHN'S CHUKCIt. A CHOKUi sei vice was held in the church heio on Easter Sunday e\ening. There was a laige congiegation, many visitors coming from Kilnkihi. The cluuch choir from that place assisted. The cl)m eh was piottily docoiated with floweia and evergieons', the decorations of the commuion tails being paiticulaily good. At the end of each pow a rloi.il wreath was fastened ; the leading desk was decouued like the communion iails with eveigreeus and white flowers, the whole having a very pretty effect. The service was opened by the choir hinging a hymn ; dm ing the seivico all the responses were chanted. Hitheito the anthems have been exceedingly well rendered, but on this> occasion it was quite the rever.se ; in fact, it was a perfect failure. It was not the fault of the choir so much as the unsuitability of the music. The anthem, " As ye have borne the image of the earthly, ye shall also bear the weight of the heavenly," is not suited for a choir of only about fifteen or twenty voices, and as they had had very little practice, nothing else could be expected. The whole thing was painful to listen to ; theie was nothing but discoid from first to last. Mr Philipwas the officiating minister, assisted by Mi Wmstone, who lead the lessons.
