AUCKLAND SUPREME COURT. Friday.— (Before his Honour Mr Justice Gillies.)
Lawrenck and Patrick Walsh, father and son, comicted on the picvious day of a brutal assault on the poiMm of Patiick Walsh, brother of the fii^t and uncle of tho second prisoner, weie bi ought up for sentence, and weie sent to gaol for si\ montli.s, with hard labour. George Paverell pleaded guilty to a charge of utteiing a foiged cheque, and was sentenced to twehe months' nnpiisonnient, with hard labour. The case against Harry Goodwaid, charged with committing a rape on Ellen Payne in the Domain on the 12th Januaiy last was paitly heaid. S \TUun.VY. The case against Goodwaid was completed, and the juiy, after retiring for half-an-hour, returned n. veubct of guilty. Sentence was deferied until Monday. The Hikutia ejectment case was adjourned. Monday. Judge Gillies sentenced Goodward to five years' imprisonment, with two whippings, for rape in the Domain. The remainder of the day was occupied with the Hikutaia ejectment c.i^e.
