THE PRICE OF WHEAT AND CO-OPERATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib. — " Obbener," in writing about the price of wheat in your issue of Tuesday, seems to forget the fact that nearly all the farmers of Waikato wish to sell all their wheat as soon as possible after it is thrashed. But the millers do not wish to buy a year's stock of wheat, or to buy in March" what they do not need for grinding till November, December and January following. Consequently, if the millers buy what they do not need, and would much rather be without until they do need it, the seller must sacrifice what the buyer calculates the risk, waste, storage, insurance and interest is woith. The true remedy I take to be is, Let the farmers combine to erect storehouses for the wheat, the growers getting an advance of say 75 % of the market value when stored, the manager of the storehouses grading and valuing the wheat monthly, as the market price rose and fell ; at the end of the year the amount be apportioned to each grower according to the average price of his grade during the year. Then the burden of risk, waste, insurance interest, &c, would fall on the proper shoulders, and the millers would be able to give top price for what they required, buy* only as they needed to grind.— l am &c, ' - Another Observer.
