PUBLIC LIBRARY.
A PUBLIC meeting in connection with the library was held in the library heie on Friday 21sfc inst., Mr Winstone in th chair. The chairman read the librai uui's, report for the last year. The iepoit showed that the total receipts tiom all sources amounted to £'23 2s 7d, expenditure, £20 3s fld, leaving a balance in hand of £3 10a lOd. At the beginning of the past veav there were 320 b >oks in the library, during the year 70 have been added making a total of 405 in the library at present. The Government subsidy for 1883, amounting to £13 14-s lOd, came to hand at the beginning of the year. Mea-rd Winstone, Carley, Rntheifwd, Wright, and Colonel Smith were appointed a committee for the ensuing year. At a meeting of the committee held after the public meeting, Colonel Smith was elected chairman. Mr Bdiige late Head Master of the Te Aw.unutu school, got up an entertainment in aid of the f ands of the school and public libi.U'ies, from the proceed of which a sum of t!,") 2s sd, was ci edited to the Public Libiary. Mr Cailcy was re-elected Secietary, librarian and treasurer.
