Hawke's Bay Races.
The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, was held at Hastings to-day. The weather was slightly showery. Maiden Plate, of lOOsovs, distance, one and half mile. Weight-foi-age. Lord of the Isles was scratched at 10 a.m. and shortly afterwards Douglas scratched Briar, preferring to do that to allowing her to walk over for half stakes. Welter Handicap of lOOaovs. Minerva 1 Aeretaunga 2 Blackheath 3 Emir Bey, and Loch Lomond, were scratched. Minerva won easily. Napier Handicap, of 500sovs. Sou'wester, 7st 01b 1 Poet t Nelson t Wapiti was s ratched, leaving eleven horses in. Sou'wester maintained the position as favourite in the betting till the flag fell, a£ evens against the field. Passing the stand the first time Nelson led, but shortly after Radames deprived him of the lead. At the back of the course Nelson again took up the running. Entering the straight Nelson and the Poet werfl hapd at it, but S.o.u,'westeif oaine through half way up the straight, and won by a length. The Poet and Nelson ran a dead heat for second place.
