THE £600 LOAN. The Poll Successful.
Considerable interest was manifested in Cambridge on Satui day last on the occasion of the poll of ratepayer^ for the £GOO loan. The weather was extremely unfavourable, and the few opponents of the scheme were jubilant in consequence, trubting that the heavy rain would prevent those residing at any distance from recording their votes. Thanks, however, to the energy of Mr E. Hewitt, Mr D. Eichardson, and several other gentlemen, who gave their time and lent their buggies for the purpose of carrying voters, there were very few resident ratepayers left un polled. The poll closed at C o'clock p.m., and at about 7 the result was announced. For the proposal, 170; against, 10; and one vote informal. The loan ia therefore carried, and the figures just quoted are enough to show that the result is in accordance with the almost unanimous desire of the people.
