Singular Fatal Accident. Auckland, Night. Helena. Smith, aged two years, a daughter of George Smith, carpenter, slipped from a swing in an outhouse, and the rope becoming entangled round her neck she was strangled.
Success of an Aucklander. The Bovven prize for the essay on " Biirain Under the Romans" was won by J. D. Davis of the Auckland Star. The award is made by the New Zealand University.
The Nottingham Castle Hotel. The City East Licensing Bench intimated to-day their intention to refuse a license to the Nottingham Castle Hotel, and to enforce the anti-Snnday liquor law, issue only ten o'clock licenses, and stop upstairs bars.
