CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.
X special meeting of the board for the purpose of confirming the special order making a rate of 4d in the £ to meet charges in connection with the proposed loan of £700 was held on Monday. There were present : Mi' Wells, (chairman), Cra, Hewitt, Clark, and Richardson.—On the motion of Cr. Richardson, seconded by Cr. Clark, it was resolved, "That the resolution of Ist February, striking a special rate of 4d in the £ on the rateable property within the town district, be now confirmed." — On the motion < of Cr. Richardson, seconded by Cr. Hewitt, the chairman and tvoasurer were authorised to sign the 10 debentures and 14 coupons in connection with same. — The Chairman, reported that only one additional tender had been received for the drainage of the upper portion of the town into the Lagoon. He considered it wise to defer the work for the present, to see what the Government inter ded to do. The board should offer the engineer, Mr Hosking, some compensation for the trouble ne had been put to, but meantime they should }e^ the matter reirain as it was. The members present agreed with this and it was resolved. — "That the question of the Karapiro Lake drainage be held over until next meeting, and that the District Engineer be asked to provide for or subsidise the work in connection with the drainage of the railway works in that locality."— The surface - man, George Hamblin, wrote resigning his post. The resignation was accepted. — The Chairman intimated that, acting under the ad.vjoe o,f his medical attendant, ne had determined to take a trip to the South, extending over about two months, and he wished the board to grant him leave of absence for that time. While, in. Wellington he would take opoaajon to expedite the £7QQ }aan, t<\v \yhich purpose he would take with hiai the signed debentures and coupons. Leave of absence was granted, and Cr. Johnson was appointed to act as chairman pro tern. — Some other unimportant business having been transacted, the board rose.
