CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.
Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, R. Derritt, joukey, sued Mr Lance for wrongful dismissal ; but as according to plaintiffs evidence the original contract was made with the Hon. VV. Robinson, plaintiff was non-suited. The opening meeting of the Convocation of the University of New Zealand will be held here on Saturday. There are two candidates for the position of chairman—Messrs. F. Fitchett and J. S.
Hay. Friday. Several burglaries in the city are reported here. There seems to be some dangerous characters about. Fivd of the Sarah W. Hunt's crew went North, to-day, en route for America. The La'/qne Aurora from Glasgow arrired to-day, and reported having successfully tried oil bags twice to allay rough seas.
