FATAL POISONING CASE.

[BY TKLEGRAPH. — I'KESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Sunday. Yesterday evening a barmaid at the Union Hotel, named Olgt Stenesse, a Dane, age about 2-1, died under very suspicious circumstances. She was well known here some time ago, but only recently returned from a visit to Auckland, and was accompanied by a man named Miller, who rspiesented himself as her husband. She was engaged at the Union as barmaid, having been there formerly, and Miller lived in the house. It appears that yesterday, about one o'clock, through some cause unascertained, but supposed to bo jealousy, she took about halt a box of " Rough on Rats," and soon began to suffer greatly. Miller went to a chemist's and got something for her, but it was not till late in the evening that Dr. Gillon was sent for. He was out at the time, but returned in about half an hour, and then found her suffering from the effects of an irritant poison, and in great agony. She was at tunes delirious, but at intervals stated that she had taken the " Rough on Rats," not thinking it was really poison. She died in about an hour and a half aftei wauls. A post moitem will be made, and an inquest held. Monday Night. At the inquest, to-day, the jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict " That the deceased met her death by her own hands, not believing, at the time the deadly natuie of the compound." A lider was added that W. T. Millar deserved severe censure for not calling medical aid sooner.
