POLICE COURT, HAMILTON Saturday. — Before His Worship the Mayor (Mr Peat). VAGRANCY.

William Carx, an old offender, was charged on the information of Constable Murray, with having no lawful visible means of support. It appears, from the admissions of Cam and another prisoner named Win. Barton, that they had begged their way from Auckland. On Friday night they slept in an empty house in Hamilton East. On Saturday morning Barton got up early, and having begged a shilling, upon which he got drunk, was ai rested. For being found in an empty ljouse without Hwfm flxouse, Cam (against whom there were nine previous convictions) waa sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, and for the second offence, hiving no lawful visible means of support, he got three months. Wm. Barton, charged with drunkenness, and with having no lawful visible means of support was sent to gaol for seven days on the first offence, and for one month on the second charge.

Had it been any other day he would have given the prisoner a cLance, but as it was he would fine him 5s and costs, with the usual alternative. The money was paid.
