RAGLAN JOTTINGS.

Our local jockey club are making strenuous efforts to make the race meeting to be held on the 17th March a success. Mr R. C. Mathias, their energetic secretary, has as usual gone earnestly to work, and it will be strange if something good does not result from his labouis. Our teacher's residence has been much improved by the alterations lately made upon it by Mr Thomas Mitchell, under the supervision of Mr Allright, for the Board of Education. With our fine new schoolhouse and the improvement just written of, the comfort of both scholars and teacher should be considerably increased, and it is to be trusted that parents will be wise enough to see that their children are made to attend the school regularly. The Ruapuke Library Committee have taken advantage of the chance offeied by the Government to increase their funds, and have made application for a share of the £600 grant, voted by Pailiamuut last session, in aid of such institutions. The Ruapuke settlers have reason to complain of the dilatoriness being evinced by the Government, in placing to the credit of the Karioi Road Road, the £367 which was allowed them under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. After having been informed that they were to have the money, it is hard to understand why it should be so long in coming to hand. — (Own Correspondent.)
