CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the above jockey club was held at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Wednesday eveniug last, when there was a fair attendance. Mr J. P. Thomson was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting weie read and confirmed. The chairman explained the object of the mcetiug, which was to make arrangements for the ensuing year. Balance - sheet. — The secretary submitted the balance-sheet, showing tHe club in credit £43 9s, which waa unanimously adopted. Thk Band.— Regarding the item of £10 for the attendance of the band at the late race meeting, which appeared on thebalancesheet, the secretary said he had receives! a bill for this amount from the bandmaster, which he had never agreed to pay. He objected to it being paid. The band attended on consideration that all their expenses should be paid, and this had been done. — It was agreed on the motion of Mr Bond to award the band £4 in consideration of their services at the January meeting, the meeting acknowledging no such claim as that made. Election of SmvAiuw. On the motion of Mr Asher the following gentlemen weie unanimously elected a body of stewards for the ensuing year • — Dr. Waddington, Messrs Allwill, Ashor, Isficc->, Hewitt, Forrest, Lewis, Thomson and Moon. On the motion of Mr Forrest it was agreed to request Messrs J. B. Whyte and F. A. Whitaker, M.H.R., to accept the positions of pi evident and vice-president respectively. Colonel Lyon was re-elected judge, Mr J. S. BuckUnd, starter; Messis Smale and Rhodes, cleiks of the course ; and Mr H. W. Moore, clerk of the scales. Mr Perciyal was re-elected handicappev, and to recoivo entries m Auckland. Votes of thanks were unanimously fiecorded to Col. Lyon for his services as I Judge, Mr Buckland as starter, and the other officers for their services during the past year. Autumn Meeting.— lt was unanimously agreed to hold this meeting on the 23id «md 21th April, and the following programme was adopted : — First Day. — Maiden Plate, £20 ; Hurdles, £40 ; Shorts Handicap, £20 ; Cambridge Cup, £100 ; Maiden Steeplechase, £20 ; and Hurry Scmry. Second Day. — Hurdles, £30 ; Publicans' Purse, £50 ; Steeplechase, £40, and silver cup \ alue £10 ; Waikato Plate, for local horses, £15, and tea and coffee service valued at £10 ; Selling Hick Race, £10 ; Consolation, £10. Total for both days in money, £3(50, and the articles abo\ c mentioned. Locvl Liber vmtv.— Mr B. Lewis, on behalf of the firm of Lewis and Simpson, Cambridge, signified his willingness to present the club with the .silver tea service for the Waikato Plate, .md Mr Isaacs £r> towards the cup for the Steeplechase. The kind offers of both these gentlemen were accepted, and a coulial vote of thanks accorded them for their liberplity. Auctioneer.— On the motion of MiHewitt, Mr A. Isaacs was unanimously appointed auctioneer for the sale of privileges during the ensuing year. Grand Stand Improvements.— The secretaiy was instructed to call for tenders for the painting of the grand st.md and picket fence round Id wn and saddling paddock. It was also agreed to do away with the tempouiry iopa fence on the running, and to replace the same with a post and rail fence, Dr Waddington and Mr A. Isaacs contributing the material gratis. The meeting concluded with a vote -of thanks to the chair.
