SERIOUS BUGGY ACCIDENT

A serious buprgy accident occurred on the Hukamii road, yesterday afternoon. A party consisting of Mrs W. Chitty, Miss Chitty and the Misses Wallnutt, were driving towards Hukanui, and when near the residence of Mr Willis the hoise endeavoured to bolt. Mrs Chitty, who was driving, remarked to Miss Chitty, in view of their going down a somewhat steep hill at this point of the mid, that she might require assistance in holding the reins. This remark the latter, in the excitement of the moment, misunderstood, and, putting out her hand pulled at one of the reins, the result of which was that the hoi.se swerved off the load, and the buggy, coming in contact with the bank, capsized on top of the occupants, inflicting severe injuries.. One of the small bones m Miss Chitty's right shoulder was broken, and Mrs Chitty's right ankle was badly sprained, besides which both ladies were severely shaken. Strange to relate, the Misses Wallmitfc escaped without injury, although one had to ciawl out from between the wheels while the horse was plunging and kicking. Atoistauce was procured, and Mrs nnd Miss Chitty were brought home, and are now under the chaige of Dr Beale.
