THE CAMBRIDGE POSTOFFICE.
Mil J. B. Wh\tb, in reply to his communiL>ttiuut>, fiaiiug tlio views of the Cam bridge people upon the subject the rumoured, removal of the post and telegraph business from the present site to the new railway station has been informed "that although the contract for the station buildings includes a post and telegraph office, it is not with the intention of removing the po^t and telegraph business from the present site, but to be in readiness for railway telegraphic requirements, and the extra rooms were left ill the contract because it is so frequently found necessary to enlarge passenger stations in such places as Cambridge. One of the room-, will be required for the use of the Government Engineer, and the letter-box fittings are to be removed from the contract." From this it appears that the plant and specifications have, aa is often done, been .simply copied from others in hand for similar work-", power always being reserved for excising any pait of the contract afterwards found to be unnecessary or unsuitable.
