PUKEKURA ROAD DISTRICT.

A mekttng of ratepayers of the above district was held in the Fukeriinu schoolhouse on Weduesday last. Twelve ratepayers were present, representing fully two- ' thirds of the area and ratable value, and Mr J. Fisher was in the chair. — The Chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting, and stated the reasons for con veiling the same. He then asked Mr Wnlkei to state to the ratepayers what was required,— Mr Walker said that he wished a road surveyed from the end of the present road, Lot 20."5, as far a.s Norwegians. It was impossible to got a dray with a load there. He had spent over £<50 in making the road, and thought it \ery unfair that, seeing they paid so much lates in a year -over £100— they could not get access to a great portion of 'their land for want of roads. Tho council had taken ovei the swamp load, and the board therefore ought to give them the road asked for.— Mr Fisher said no doubt they were at a disadvantage in not having a road, but it was more than the boaid could b\i expected to do, even though they were in plenty of funds. They, the parties moie immediately mteiested, ought to do the most of it —Mr Walker enquired if he paid for the sun ey and plan-, would the board allow him his rates to recoup his outlay.— The Chairman said it would not be allowed. — After considerable discussion it was lesolved that Messrs Walker and Benn, and (iiice and Parker get the proposed road suiveyed, and plans picpated at theii own co-t,'the route to bo approved of by the tiustees pievious to suney, and the boaid agieeing to take the necessary stops to get the same gazetted a, public road.

After the public meeting the board held a meeting, when accounts .unounting to about £'A weie oideied to be paid. — (A Cone->pondent.)
