Mr Griffith, Premier, made a statement re the policy of the Government, and announced that notice would be given to terminate the present contract with the British India titeam Navigation Comp.iny for direct service with Queensland, and that in future immigration will be limited to a thousand monthly. It was decided to make a change in the AgentGeneralship. The poll-tax on Chinese will be increased, and the number allowed to arrive is to be restricted. The trunk lines of railway will be extended, and a start will be made with the line from the Gulf of Carpentaria.
