THE LATEST. (Received January 11th, 2.20 p.m.) The French in Madagascar. London, January 10.
The intelligence received on the Bth inst. that the Malagasies had accepted the French ultimatum, and agreed to cede the northern portion of Madagascar, is not yet confirmed. Later news statei that France insists on the establishment of French protection over the whole island, and this has been objected to by the Malag isy Government. The matter in still unsettled.
Auckland Loan. Tenders for the City of Auckland loan of a, hundred thousand pounds were opened to-day. The total amount offered was £702, 000. Tenders at £ 1 02 7s 6,1 will receive live per cent, of allotment, and tenders above that amount will receive in fall.
