THE TE AROHO TRAMWAY. REPORT OF TRAMWAY COMMITTEE.

The following repoit was read at yester-d-.iy'» meeting of the Piako County Council :— " To the chevinnan of the Piako County Council. 1. The tramway at Te Aroha has nowbeen at work seven weeks. 2. Considering the extiaoidinary difficulties which liad to bo grappled with, the tramway has gone towoik well. At one or two pointy s >n>e necessary alterations weieiequired. These have been attended to dm ing the holidays. 3. The locomotive will be at work on the first engine grade in a few days. 4. The j expenses of working the line have been heavier than will now be necessary, both in nuinbeis of men and daily pay. Tho men employed have been reduced to the lowest number consistent with efficiency. The committee recommend that Ss per day of eight hours be the daily pay for competent hands. 5. By way of fuither reducing cost of trans.it, the committee recommend that four active plough houses be puichased, to co.st not over J-Jl5 each. That Mr J. S. Buckland be authorised to pui - chase them, and deliver .same to Mr Adams, tramway manager, at Waiorongomai, not later than Saturday night next. G. The committee recommend that all goods, mining lequibites of all kinds, be bent up the tramway at a charge of one shilling pei cwt, or for any package weighing under one cwt a uniform chaige of one shilling for each such pai eel shall be made. That to carry out these recommendations theerection of a small crane, not to cost over ten pounds, be authorised, together with the I purchase of an Avery weighing machine to weigh up to five cwt. 7. The committee estimate the revenue for the month of January to be £250, and if the foregoing recommendations be adopted, theexpenditme for that month will not exceed £185. 8.
