Whatawhata Sports.

The Whatawbata races came off on New Year's Day very successfully, without any hitch fn>m beginning to end. Every race wa-i well contested, with the exception of tho Handicap Hurdled. A steamer brought a good many visitors, and there were also laige numbers of natives present. Mr Ge >rgi3 liad his hotel very tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers, and provided a good cold lunch for the strangers, etc. The day's amusement closed with a ball in the schoolroom, which was crowded. Dancing was carried on with great pleasure and vigour till the small hours. - The committee deserve great credit for the very able way everything was carried out.
