KIHIKIHI.
The sports held here on New Year's Day were a great success. People from all pa its of t: c district attended. I will send for next issue full particulars of the various events. Although there was a large number of people here dvi ing the day, 1 did not see a single case of drunkenness, except one or two natives who had imbibed rather freely. The concert, which was to have been held in the evening, was postponed, as Miss Swan could not come up from Auckland to sing as promised. There is a good deal of wild excitement here over the nominations for the town board, and one frequently hears such expressions a» " electioneei ing dodge," " trick to secure a vote," &c. A few people are making as much fuss over the election as if the destinies of a nation weie .it .stake. The following are the n.iineo of these nominated : — Farrell, TiKtram, Wilkinson, Verner, Berry, Elm.sley, (Trace, Anderson, Ellis, Blencoe, and Maunders. — (Own Correspondent. )
