LABOUR REPORT.

The hist approach of the Christmas and New Year's holidays pie\ent many from coming; for waul for situations, and employers aio dubious as to their oiders for servants for the New Year. The supply of men-servants have been very satisfactory ; not so with the women, who have been in great demand, and we have experienced home trouble in procuring really good women-servants. Engagements were as follow.s : — Manted couples £">2 to tfe'O, and all found ; good faun hands, from 20s to 255; farm laboureis, l.ls to 20s; milkers, "10i to 20-s ; chpese-nmkei s, 25-> to 10-., and all found ; station hands, l.is to 20-, ; men cooks, 2os to 40s ; gardeners, 25s to 40s ; giooms, 20^ to 30-. ; butchers, 25s to 3"X ; bush hands Gs to 7s pei day ; labouiei.^, 7.s to 8s per day ; youths and boys for faim, 5s to 12s ; blacksmiths, ,Ss to 12s per day ; carpenfceis, (is to 11s ; cabmet-makeis, !)s to 12s ; drapers, 2.1s to .~>os ; chemist, (>os ; cab driveis and 'bus dnveis, 20s to 425; housekeepers, 15s to 20s ; general servant I*,1 *, 8s to 14s ; cooks, I.ls to 2.1s ; housemaids, 8s to 12s ; parlour-maids, ]0s to 12s ; nnisegirls, 5s to Ss ; other engagements at current rate of wages.
