CONCERT AT CAMBRIDGE.

A coxc'Eur in aid of the funds of the Cambridge Distiict School Libraiy \\a.s held in the Public Hall on Monday evening last. We anticipated that outside of the quality oftheinuhic.il tieat which the programme promised to afford, the worthy object of the entertainment would be a sufficient guarantee for an extensive patronage on the p.ut of the parents, but in this respect we weie senously disappointed, the concert on Monday evening being very pooily attended. In point of fact, the parent* of the children attending the school were in no way represented ; and the fact does not in any way reflect credit upon them, and shows very little consideiatimi for the welfare of the school on their pait. If patents really desire to see their childien piogiess, they should manifest their feelings in a piactical form on occasions of this nature. For .some time past Mr T. A. 8011, the indefatigable music teacher of the school, has been working to en suit, aci editable success h<> fai .is his immediate depaitinent w.is concerned, and we feel sine that those who weie piesent on Monday evening will leadily concede that nothing was w anting on his part. The programnie had e\ idently boon got together with much choice, nnd some of the items betrayed very caieful rehearsal, though it must be said that the choruses at times did not come up to the standaid of perfection. The leading items of the evening were " The Meny Elves," contributed by the Misses Murray, " Sans Souci" (pianofoite duet), by Miss W. Murray and Mr 8011, the song-, of Miss Main, and those of Mr Mooie and Mr ftimms. The pianoforte duet duet contributed by Miss Wilson and Miss Main was also pleasingly executed. The following is a more detailed aoeount of the entertainment: — Oreiture, " Marcho anx Flambeaux," Messrs Johnson (harmonium), Neal (violin), Bates (2nd \iolin), and Stuait (violincollo) ; chorus, " Come to the Fair," company ; song, " The Blue Alsation Mountain," and as an encore, " We Tars," Mr Wake ; duet, " The Merry Elves," Misses Murray (encored) ; solo, " Clochette," and as an encore, " The FniHes," Mr Moore ; reading, Mr J. The accompaniments were played by Mi^s Wilson in her usual masterly manner. Mr Neal kindly put his organ at the disposal of the company for the evening. The promoters of the concert desire to thank the ladies and gentleman who so kindly assisted, particularly Mrs and the Misses Murray, whose invaluable assistance was one of the most noticeable features of the evening.
