THE BLUE RIBBON ARMY AT CAMBRIDGE.
• It has boon .said thab the popularity of this oigani&ation is now on the wane — tli.it having had its day, it~. novelty being 1 it-> ]>iinci]>iil attr.iction, like many other kindred institutions it is now about to dwindle out of existence. But, if we are to judge from the .success Mliich has attended the ofltoit- of it-> officers at C.imbiidge smce it-, establishment there, the belief that it if. on the wane cannot well be entertained. On Wednesday evening List a most .successful entertainment, under the auspices of the members of the Army, and in aid of its funds, was given in the Public Hall, when there was a fairly laige attendance of the general public. The chair was occupied by the Rev. Mr Parsonson, of Auckland, and the choir, which numbered about thirty voices, was under the leadership of Mr Jus. Stuart, Mi J. H. Johnson presiding at the harmonium. The evening'b euteitunment opened with one of Sankey's- hynvis, after which prayer was engaged in. The Chairman then called upon Mes-,r.s Stuart and Johnson to contribute an instrumental duet. The response \va< an excellent piece of music, which was deservedly well leceived. The service of hong, "John Tiegenoweth : His Maik,'' was then proceeded with, the Rev H. R. Dewsbury contributing the connective leadings in his usual masterly style. This, portion of the entertainment was the item of the evening, and evidently a .Folded much satisfaction. The Rev Mr ParsonMm contributed a very interesting discourse on the " Blue Ribbon" movement, and its universal effectiveness, the good uoik which it had done, the happiness which had been bi ought about in many a home by its liistiuinentahty, and its great populauty. The Doxology having been sung, the Benediction brought a very successful evening to a close.
