CAMBRIDGE-ROTOR UA ROAD.
As Hie summer months aio now bjing onU'ied np >n, touusts are anxiously looknig- fen uaicl to the completion of the new lo.id through tin) bush to Rotoiua, in the hope of being able to avail thenisehos of that mute dm my tlio coining su.ihou, wlion taking a ti ip to Rotorua .Mid. the iutenoi. We aie glad to notice that, under the Mipei vision of Mr Claike, Government Engineei, little, if any, delay has been experienced m canying out the woik, at least that j)oition of it which is now icady for ti.iffic. Butlci'b contiact, or that which included the Cambndge end of the bush load, has been completed for some time, but owing, to the exceedingly inclement weather of late, little process has been made at the othor end, and those engaged on the oontiact have not been able to earn anthing like fair wages. Homo's contract, which constitutes the Rotorua end of the load, is now completed, with the exception of about thiee-quaitern-of-a-mile, and with the present fine weather it ib expected that Christmas will .see the job completed. It can haidly be expected, however, that the bush road will be passable for wheeled traffic until about Easter, as there will be a few ugly placets to trim, stumps to move, and other little inequalities to smooth over, before au easy passage can be When opened, the new load should be the means of incieasmg the touribt traffic to Rotorua via Cambridge, as it w ill then be an easy days' journey from C.unbiidge to Ohineinutu, either licling or dri\ ing. As the 1 ail way cannot be finished for some time to come, doubtle-s the Government w ill .subsidise a line of coaches, and as the passenger traffic would be considerable, the .subsidy required would not be an exceedingly largo one.
